Garlic Monkey Bread

I have seen a few versions of the famous monkey breads floating around the web. Some with sugar and cinnamon and others with garlic and different cheeses. After trying a few out I whipped up my own version that I personally thought was delish! Most recipes I found called for 2 cans. You can add 2 with this recipe if you would like. I however enjoy lots of taste and less bread! This combo works well if you are like me :)

Mini Garlic Monkey Bread

1 (7.5 oz) Can Buttermilk Biscuits

4 Tbsp Butter or Margarine

2 Tbsp Olive Oil

3 Cloves Minced Garlic

2 Tbsp Dried Parsley Flakes

1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese

+ 2 Tbsp cheese for toppings

Chop each biscuit up into 4 or 6's depending on the bite size you want.

A pizza cutter works great for this part!

Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl minus the extra 2 Tbsp of parmesan.

Get your hands dirty and toss the mixture up until evenly coated.

In a GREASED regular size muffin tin add 6-8 pieces

per cup. Noticed I have yelled the greased muffin tin part because I failed to do this step and it was not fun getting these little monkeys out after they were cooked!

Sprinkle the additional 2 Tbsp of parmesan and pop in

oven @ 400 degrees for 12-14 minutes.

Grated Parmesan is best but the canned stuff will work also :)

2011 was one busy and exciting year for my family and I! We purchased our first home, Blake turned one, Zoey started 1st grade! Hubby became a Paramedic! WOW, what a year. Anxious to see what 2012 will bring us. Here's to another great year, wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2012!

So, as you can notice from my last post is has been awhile since I've said... err wrote anything.

Big changes have happened in the past few weeks! Hubby and I purchased our FIRST home!

So exciting & stressful! You see, the process of purchasing our first home actually started 9 months ago...

When the term short-sale is used, It doesn't mean you will be in your new home in a shorter amount of time! Course we knew this, But we also didn't think it would take 9 MONTHS! Between title problems, slow banks and numerous loan extensions it was craziness! We finally closed November 3rd and moved a few days later. YAY!

We have just about all the boxes unpacked. The interior of this home is in MAJOR need of a paint job. The previous owners had some very ummm interesting color choices. I already have a huge list of DIY projects in mind! Now to get them all together. I will update soon with photos.

Recipe - Pillsbury Grands Donuts!

Yes, You read that right. Pillsbury Grands Donuts!

There was a sale awhile back on Grands so I picked up a few. Eight to be exact.....

Anyways onto the donuts!

I used a wide mouth bottle to make the holes then with about and inch or so of heated up peanut oil I used some tongs and placed the "donuts" in the hot oil. Less then 2 minutes later or until golden brown you turn them over and fry up the other side. Once down put them on some paper towels.

For the vanilla icing I simply added 1 cup powered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk and 1 teaspoon vanilla. I also wanted chocolate icing so I did another bowl that consisted of 1 cup powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons milk and 1/4 cup cocoa powder. I'm sure any donut icing recipe you have or find will work wonders too!

They turned out very fluffy and light. Not biscuity or dense like I expected. I have made donuts from scratch before, but after whipping up these I don't think I'm ever looking back again! These seriously took less then 20 minutes to make. The longest part was waiting for the oil to heat up! I added some orange food coloring to the vanilla icing though you can't see it with the color of the donuts. My 6 year old and I were going for a Halloween look. I also thought I had some orange and black sprinkles from cookies last time but sadly I did not. We improvised with green and yellow butterfly's from Easter! Hey, it works and the kids don't care :)

I've decided to start another adventure! If you noticed there is another little widget to the right...

It's my new Etsy shop!

I have been talking and thinking about opening shop for months. Finally I did it!

I must admit when selling homemade items it IS very nerve wracking. Will they like it? How are my prices? What if something goes wrong? AHH! This past weekend I opened up "Snappy Design"

I'm still figuring out Etsy and getting things in order.

Honestly, picking out a name for the shop was harder then the prices or items I planned on listing.

I LOVE painting and putting signs together! If you couldn't already tell from this, this & this post. It may sound a bit crazy, but putting one together is sort of relaxing! Just like scrapbooking is for me! In the near future I plan on adding a couple cards to the shop...

I have been building up my paint selection and 2 weeks ago hubby bought me a bunch of lumber. They have already been chopped and painted! I think a visit to Home Depot is in the works today....

Well, That is the latest with me! Please let me know what you think of the shop and any suggestions/feedback is welcome!!

OH, this morning I made 2 sales! eekk for my first sale! Time to pack them up and off to the post office.

Good Ole Salsa!

Salsa. The one food I could eat all day, everyday. And I do...sometimes!

I have always been VERY picky about my salsa. I don't like it from a store bought jar, I do not like big chunks, It can't be too sweet. It has to have heat & and not to much onion, needs to have a good amount of cilantro taste. See? Picky.

Here is a WONDERFUL recipe I found from The Pioneer Women (love her recipes).

It's easy and so yummy! My mother who is a HUGE salsa lover even threw out her old

recipe and put this one in it's place!

Hands down the best one I have every tasted. It's just like restaurant salsa!

Salsa

Adapted From

Pioneer Women

Ingredients

1 can (28 Ounce) Whole Tomatoes With Juice
2 cans (10 Ounce) Rotel (diced Tomatoes And Green Chilies)
1/4 cup Chopped Onion
1 clove Garlic, Minced
1 whole Jalapeno, Quartered And Sliced Thin
1/4 teaspoon Sugar
1/4 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Ground Cumin
1/2 cup Cilantro (more To Taste!)
1/2 whole Lime Juice

Combine whole tomatoes, Rotel, onion, jalapeno, garlic, sugar, salt, cumin, lime juice, and cilantro in a blender or food processor. Pulse until you get the salsa to the consistency you'd like. I Do not like any chunks in my salsa, puree for me!

Refrigerate salsa for at least an hour. Serve with a good bag of tortillas!

Preserving Fresh Herbs

As summer comes to a close we are all looking for ways on how we can preserve our wonderful summer gardens. When it comes to herbs luckily you can have them indoors and eat them fresh year round. At the beginning of the summer I had a few herbs indoors but once picked and used I failed to plant more, woopsie my bad....

If you purchase them at the grocery store during a great sale you may want to stock up a little! This week I picked up 2 bunches of green onions and 1 bunch of cilantro. For the cilantro I planned on using it in homemade salsa (recipe soon) and for the green onions I had no idea what I was going to do with them, but I wanted them at .50 a bunch and I knew if nothing I could freeze them for and used them during a later time.

What? Freeze? Green onions & Cilantro?

I've been on a major freezer meal kick but I have been freezing cilantro and green onions for quite some time now. They work great in soups, salsas, potatoes, enchiladas, Mexican dishes and other food that wouldn't necessarily require them fresh, like baked potatoes. For salsa which i make often, the cilantro I think tastes the exact same as if you just had gotten it from the store or garden!

They both keep the green color nicely and they come out of the bag the same they went in. As you can see in the picture of the onions in my palm which I had froze previously and taken out to show you they are still nice and round. I wash, dry well then chop them up into the sizes I would use them. I also use a freezer zip loc and make sure ALL of the air is out! Air and water will cause them to brown. The longest I've had them stored in the freezer has been 1 month and it's still tasted great. I'm sure a bit longer would be fine too, we just eat it so quickly!!

Homemade Ice Cream In a Coffee Can!

Awhile back I found a few recipes on how to make homemade ice cream in a bag. Z and I tried that with much success! It was actually my first time making homemade ice cream too! So, it was nice that we both experienced making it together. We had so much fun making it I began searching for other homemade ice cream recipes. I seen a few made in machines, on the stove, some you would put in the freezer, others with eggs or half and half and some in a coffee can. What? a coffee can? I opted for the same "in a bag" recipe and wanted to make it in the coffee can because it sounded cool! All you need is a few simple ingredients that most already have on hand and a child who's eager enough for ice cream that they will

kick around a coffee can for 30 minutes!

Ice Cream In a Can

Adapted from teachnet

1 Cup Milk

2 Tbs Sugar

1 Tsp Vanilla

Ice

Salt

1 large and 1 small coffee can

Tape

If you would like it chocolate flavored add 1 dash of chocolate pudding powder or 1 tbs chocolate syrup.

What you will need

Put the mixture inside the smaller coffee can tape lid to make sure it doesn't leak.

Place small can inside larger can. Fill with ice and sprinkle salt!

Hmm... Make sure your cans fit well together.

Otherwise you will need more tape....

End of Summer Break!

As we near the end of summer break I sit and wonder WHERE did this summer break go!? Maybe we were so busy that it just flew by? Next week Z starts 1st grade! FIRST GRADE! ahh....

She is ready more then ever to get back into school. She loves learning and is really missing all of her friends. This week we have been trying to get her back into that 8 p.m bedtime. I mean because summer time equals later nights, even if you are 5... lol

Cinnamon Roll Waffles? Yes please!!

Sunday morning.
A perfect day of the week to cook a nice breakfast for your family!
This past week I stubbed across a yummy sounding recipe from Recipe Girl.
I love cinnamon. Or anything that has cinnamon and icing for that matter! This was an easy one to whip up and the kids also loved it. B decided his hair would love some too....

I decided to make the waffle recipe I would normally use (the back of a Bisquick box plus a few extra ingredients) Then I used the same icing as Recipe girl called for.

Waffles

2 Cups Original Bisquick mix
1 1/3 Cups Milk
2 Tbsp Canola Oil (or any oil you like to use)
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla
a dash of cinnamon

Plug in and heat waffle maker. Mix all ingredients until blended.
Spray non stick cooking spray in waffle maker. Add one large spoon full on maker and close lid until done, or when steam starts coming up. While waffles are cooking start on your toppings.

Cinnamon Topping

1/2 Cup Butter, Melted
3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
1 Tbsp Cinnamon

Cream Cheese Topping

4 Tbsp Butter
2 oz Cream Cheese
3/4 Cup Powdered Sugar
1/2 tsp Vanilla

Drizzle on waffles & enjoy!

Last night I spent about 2 hours doing my own nails! I am one who always has to have nail polish on and I also like dramatic, frilly puuurrrty nails!
Recently I just bought myself the "Monster Bundle" nail art stamping set. It has so many different designs and plates you can use I love it! Perfect for any holiday or just everyday wear. After watching a few youtube tutorials and practicing a few times on my 5 year old princess and also a couple times on myself I decided to give it a go and get festive for the 4th! As you can see that is how they turned out! I'm pretty happy with them! You definitely need to buy the Konad "Special polish" that is thick and made for stamping. I tried out a few different brands of my own polish to see if you would work and there was no success. It would not stick to the stamper, it's just to thin.

Is it that time again? Summer? Really? Already?

OK, I can handle that! It's already in the 90's here so I suppose that is a sign! My vegetables and fruits are flourishing and I'm anxious to start harvesting them. Now if only the wind would go away! Z is out of school and about to start swimming lessons along with B and our "parent and tot" lessons. This summer is going to be kinda of hectic but I'm ready for whatever comes our way!

Ahhh school is out now it's time for the FUN to begin! Relaxing by the water, boating at the lake, camping in the woods. Sounds great right? Ahh unfortunately this will be a very different summer for us this year. Hubby is in the Paramedic class and July when he starts his clinical time, summer time fun will go away to just about none for him! It's OK though, the outcome will be awesome! Today my little girl graduated Kindergarten! *sniffle* *sniffle*
Has it been one whole school year already?! It feels like yesterday I was getting her ready for her first day of class! The children made their hats and they each received a little diploma. Afterwards they were handed out awards. It was a small, nice little ceremony. I may have teared up once... or twice...

It's Burger Time....

This past week it was the hubby's Birthday. To celebrate the occasion I decided to make a little something different instead of the traditional cake. He is a big burger lover. I mean seriously a double bacon cheese lover. I swear he could live off those. Briiing on the heart attack right? Anyways I came across this idea from Bakerella and saved it for when the time was right! The process was incredibly easy and the outcome was awesome! He definitely was surprised by it and loved every bite, even though it wasn't beef! The one difference I did was instead of the sugar cookies for the "fries" I used peanut butter cookies (one of his favorite). And I also added an "M" to the "fries" for his initial.

Here is just a share of photos from Blakes first birthday! It was just a small get together we had. And it was perfect! Right when B woke up he went straight for the balloon that was placed at the end of the bed. He then walked down the hallway and was ready to start his day! He opened presents... err ate the wrapping paper. Then we went to town to go to the park. He loved the slide and the swing! Afterwards we went out for lunch and did some shopping. In the evening it was pizza and cake time! The banner and party hat made by me. The cake I put together the night before. Funfetti, vanilla with butter cream frosting. Fondant covered.

Teacher Appreciation Week

This week is teacher appreciation week and to show mine and Z's appreciation to her wonderful teachers I made these simple little gifts. The water bottle gift seems to be all the rage and I see why. CUTE and easy!! I added both an instant ice coffee mix and pink lemonade. The tags I made from using a svg file on my SCAL. (if you want the file just let me know). I added the other embellishments and glued everything together. For the highlighter tag I got the print out from this lovely site.

Have you seen those awesome colorful flower pots?! They have been around for awhile and you can find them in the gardening section of most home stores. Some are ceramic, terracotta or plastic. A few weeks ago I wanted some BRIGHT colored ones too. Sooo I took a trip to my local home depot and looked at the flower pots they had in the gardening section while Z picked up some watermelon seeds and B tried eating the jalapeno packet of seeds...

The prices of the pretty colored containers were just a little to high for me. After all I'm just filling them with dirt! So I headed over to my other favorite section of the store and picked a few cans of spray paint! Love these colors too!! I decided to paint over some plain jane beige flower pots I've had sitting around. I now have pretty colored flower pots too that only cost me a few bucks!

Unstuffed Stuffed Peppers

Here is a simple recipe I like to make on the nights dear hubby is at work, since he doesn't care for bell peppers. Z and I love peppers and like a piece in every bite so I decided to chop up the peppers and throw them into a casserole dish. I also freeze my raw peppers and it works perfect for this recipe or regular stuffed peppers. When they are on sale at the store I stock up. Simply cut the tops and wash out. After they are dry pop them into zip-locs whole. When you are ready to use them take them out about an hr before you need them. The moisture from the freezer makes it so you don't need to pre-boil them. I'm also growing some green peppers in my garden and hope to use those soon! OK, on to the recipe.

Unstuffed Stuffed Peppers
(my way)

4 green bell peppers
1lb ground beef
1 can tomato sauce (2 if you like extra, like me!)
1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup cooked rice
1 cup shredded cheese
1 tablespoon chopped onions (more to taste & I use dried onions)
dash of salt & pepper if desired

In a large pot boil peppers. Unless you freeze them.
Brown ground beef and saute onions in a large skillet. Add cooked rice (I use a rice cooker), chopped peppers, 1/2 can tomato sauce, worchestershire sauce, half cup cheese & mix well. In a greased medium size baking dish fill with meat/pepper mixture. Pour remaining tomato sauce on top and sprinkle with remaining cheese. Bake at 350 until cheese is melted.

I'm eggstatic to tell you about an eggs-cellent and easy idea to make your dyed eggs that much more egg-citing! Ok, ok enough of that cheesiness.

Using my SCAL program and handy Cricut i printed out a few vinyl decals and simply stuck them on the eggs before dying them then peeled the vinyl off after the eggs were dyed and dryed.

Here is a fun little craft that requires nothing more then what you already have on hand! (if you use cardboard egg cartons, own paint & glue)
I cut and modge podged the two little egg carton cups together. Gave Z some paint and glue pens and let her go to town!

Homemade Reese's Eggs

I absolutely love Reese's peanut butter cups! They are probably one of my favorite chocolate bars! Can you call them a chocolate BAR? cups? And those little "eggs" that come out around Easter are awesome! Around here they are 75 cents EACH!
Wow, for one flat peanut butter "egg". Hmm but they are so good....
After looking at a few different recipes I settled on this one. I think these are BETTER then the store bought ones and I didn't have to go out and buy anything I didn't already have.

Homemade Reese's Eggs
Source

1 cup confectioners’ sugar

1/2 cup smooth peanut butter

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pinch kosher salt

1/2 cup chocolate chips

1. In a large bowl mix the peanut butter, butter, vanilla, and salt with a wooden spoon until well combined. Then add the confectioners’ sugar and stir it well until is completely incorporated with the peanut butter mixture.

2. Use your hands to roll the peanut butter into egg-like oval shapes that are 1/4 inch thick and chill them on a plate in the fridge for about 1 hour.

3. In the microwave melt the chocolate chips until they are completely smooth. Remove the peanut butter balls from the fridge and dip each one into the melted chocolate until they are completely coated. Line a plate with wax paper and allow the chocolate to cool and harden before eating.

Enjoy!

I only had salted butter on hand so I opted not to add the pinch of salt. I probably wouldn't have anyways since for the most part I'm an anti-salter. I also added about 1 teaspoon of shortening to the chocolate chips while melting them to make it and keep it smoother for dipping. Next time I will flatten them out a little bit more too.

Today in my flower garden I noticed the first flower of the year has bloomed! It was a lovely Tulip. I come from a dutch heritage and tulips are a favorite and something very special to me. Growing up I remember my dad being so fond of his tulips in the spring. He was actually born and raised in Holland and when I was younger we had visited the wonderful Netherlands twice, then a third time the year before I got married with the then future hubby and Z. We plan on returning one of these days when the time is right.

Here is a simple recipe to the BEST dip ever.
Seriously it's so addicting! I make it at every gathering! And I even got my mother in-law who swore she didn't like spinach to eat it, and love it!
It's really simple! If you get a packet of the Knorr vege table it has the recipe on the back. I always have a few packets on hand.

1 package (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
1 container (16 oz.) sour cream
1 cup Mayonnaise
1 package Knorr® Vegetable recipe mix
1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, (optional)
3 green onions, chopped (optional)

Combine all ingredients in the food processed and mix until smooth.
Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Hollow out a large bread bowl and pour in the spinach dip right before serving.
Save the lid and inside pieces.
Don't forget to buy an extra bread! The bread bowl is simply not enough. I usually get a baguette and chop that up too.
To make it a bit healthier you can use light sour cream and light mayo! It tastes the same.

I've seen many "distressed" and DIY "aged" signs lately. Well I decided to hop on the wagon and make one too! It was surprisingly simple and I'm sure with the help of my cricut I made it that much easier! I used a scrap piece of wood we had laying around here, stained it, sloppishly painted it then applied my vinyl letters. Pained a lighter coat over top, peeled off vinyl, distressed some areas and stained some more and that was it! Of course there was some dying and waiting around in-between all that. I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

I have a lot of baking & caking decorating supplies and my collection just keeps growing. This weekend I will be making a wedding cake for the first time! (pictures to come)
To make my 6 hours from home travel a bit more organized I bought this filing tote from Walmart. Which by the way was to good of a sale to pass. Anyways It works perfect for my needs right now. To pretty it up I used the handy dandy Cricut. I cut some vinyl and applied.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Ah yes another year older. I don't "feel" older until I see my babies get older. I think wow Z is almost over with Kindergarten! Or B is Crawling already! Then I remember that the aging process is also happening to me. Sometimes I would like time to stop. I'm very happy and content with the way things have shaped out to be. The future holds big things and I am excited to see it all happen but some days I would time to just stand still.

Yesterday Z was asking where or if I was going to have a cake. I told her no that I was sweet enough and, ~~my waist line~~ I didn't need a cake this year. Well she became a little upset because EVERY one should have a cake when it's their birthday. Ah yes through the awesome eyes of a 5 year old. So with little help from me she made me cupcakes.

Make New Crayons

A good way to use up those broken pieces of crayons is to melt them down and reuse them! I decided to melt Z's last night in my mini cupcake tin. First you need to gather all the crayons and take off the wrappers....Which by the way takes FOREVER. It's nice to have the little one help with that chore! Then arrange them in the tin however you would like. Pop them in the oven at 300 degrees and let them melt away! I left them in there for about 6 minutes. Just make sure you check them because they melt quick! After they cooled I put them in the freezer for 5 minutes then the just popped right out of the tins! Wah-la! New crayons! So easy!

Yesterday Z and I made the best cookies ever! Oatmeal chocolate chip!! mmm.... so chewy and delish! If I could only choose one cookie to eat forever I think this one maybe it!

Here is the recipe from Allrecipes

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups quick-cooking oats
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir into the creamed mixture until just blended. Mix in the quick oats, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Now, I've read a lot of the reviews and choose to add 1/2 cup more flour and only 1/2 teaspoon of salt and a bit less baking soda. I dislike salty and am a strong preacher for less or NO sodium!! And I did not add the walnuts. I only cooked for 10 minutes. They turned out wonderful and the hubby couldn't rave enough about them!

This past weekend Z and I put together her Valentine's day cards for her class. Last year during the after V-day sales there was this cute little mail box with princess valentines inside. My mom picked it up for Z. This year we are using them. Thanks mom!
To jazz them up a bit I decided to put get a hole puncher and add holes in the middle of each one so we could add a heart shaped lolli to each one! So easy and makes them just that much more sweet!!

I seen this cute idea yesterday while reading in blogland and I just had to try it out right then and there! It was a prefect little project for Zoey and I to do on a Sunday. It was so easy!
All you need is:

4 cups bird seed
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup water
3 tablespoons of corn syrup
Cooking spray
Cookie cutters

Mix all ingredients until seed is well coated.

On a wax paper cover a cookie sheet,
spray cookie cutters with cooking spray
and pack seed mixture inside cutters.

Put a straw inside to make a hole where you will be hanging it from
Next time I'm going to make it closer to the center so it holds better.

Lift cookie cutter and let air dry for at least 6 hours.
I waited over night.

Have a cute little girl hang them up!!

Today B is 8 months old! WOW! He is trying so hard to crawl too! This week we introduced some meat into his meals. I mix them with fruits or veggies so its more appealing for him. He is still not sleeping through the night but last week for a few nights he woke up only once instead of 2-3 times.

Now that the holiday madness is over I can get back into my routine. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas as I did! Santa was very good to myself and family. Food was delicious and company was wonderful! Now it's time to get my kinect in gear and work off some of the holiday weight! oh heck I still have a few more days until the new years. That can wait.... lol

Christmas Lights and the Wild West

I have been trying to post this for over a week but was unable too. So here it is! Sorry for the delay...

Two weekends ago my family and I traveled across state to celebrate Christmas with my side of the family. We had a wonderful time! My mom cooked an awesome meal. Of course nothing beats moms holiday dinners! Later in the evening we took a trolley ride tour threw a neighborhood that is known for their huge display of lights. It's called the Winterhaven Festival.
I recommend it to everyone it was very neat! The next day we took a visit to Tombstone. We walked the streets and did a horse and carriage tour. To finish the trip we go some old time photos taken! That was my 2nd time visiting and hubbys 1st. He has been wanting to go and absolutely loved it. Over all we had a fabulous and eventful visit!

So, I've been a bit MIA here lately! With good reasons of course. This holiday time has been crazy busy for us. We just got back from having Christmas with my side of the family. I have had my cricut working away while I glue together alot of albums which I will post another day. I made some treats for my daughters kindergarten class. Along with some ornaments for my kiddies and a few close family members. Then I made my very first sign! It was stenciled then painted. That was interesting as I'm not big in the painting department. Tomorrow the in-laws come over and will stay for the weekend to celebrate Christmas. I'm ready for some good food and good company!!

Today I spent the better half of my afternoon along side my beloved Cricut. I just got the SCAL program (LOVE IT!! Early xmas present from Hubby) I started making some gift tags! I still have a few more sheets to go but I have a nice start. I also cut up some vinyl and decorated a "cookies for Santa" plate! After all the man in red needs something nice for his cookies.

Since I do not have a fire place our stockings have never really had home. Last week I started on a stocking hanger board. I painted it dark red, ruffed up and stained the edges then added vinyl. Viola! I absolutely love the way it turned out!

Now that Thanksgiving is over it's time to get on the ball and mail out those Christmas cards! Each year I have always been a little bit slow with sending them out and end up having to send them as New Years cards but this year I would like them to be on time!
Photo cards have to be my favorite of all. I know everyone we send them too loves seeing our smiley faces! After all when you add a photo too the card you are sure to put a smile on their face too!! I have used Shutterfly in the past for my sons birth announcements. I got them in such a timely manner and the quality was awesome not to mention the great price! I also use the site for my photo storage so I do not lose all my precious pictures. Storage is for free by the way.

Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for my husband having a good job during these tough economic times. Thankful for my own good health, and for my healthy, happy children and marriage.
Our warm home, my wonderful parents and brother.
An abundance of food, technology (my blackberry and xbox kinect) and laughter!

This year I will actually be celebrating turkey day this coming Saturday. Hubby works Today and tomorrow. It was planned to just be the 4 of us this year but my mom called me yesterday morning saying that I needed to make room for 2 more because her and my dad were going to do the 5 hour drive on Friday for them to be able to eat with us. Awesome! The menu consists of deviled egg, summer sausage with cheese and crackers, ham, stuffing, green bean casserole, perogies, rolls, pumpkin and blueberry pie! Yum!

Today I was writing out my menu for Thanksgiving and I got stuck on what kind of appetizer to make. So then it got me thinking about my Christmas menu and what appetizer i wanted then! Appetizers around my household are a big thing as it's the only thing we usually eat before the big meal on holidays. You know how it goes, snack light so you can stuff yourself silly with turkey and stuffing! If your lucky fit a small piece of pie in there. I've never cared for the too fancy salmon on a cracker, a mush of veggies on a piece of bread or some moldy cheese. I like simple and tasty! After all you don't want to spend all your time on an appetizer. You need to save your energy for all that turkey business! Here are a few simple snacks. Some you can even prepare days before hand, freeze and when your ready take them out and bake.

Here is a little tip for you! If you own a lysol no-touch hand soap system then you know that the refills are about $4-$6 or they are at least where I live...
That is just about the cost of the whole system! I knew there had to be a way to refill them. And sure enough there is! You do however have to be careful because the cap is very fragile and you have to make sure not to mess with the little hole where the soap connects to the system otherwise it will leak.

Simply slide a butter knife slowly under the cap. The once the knife is under there you slide it over to the other side and it will pop off. Make sense?

Today my little ...err... BIG boy is 6 months old! To celebrate the special occasion Blake got a new pair of slippers and I made him a mini album of his milestones and pictures from 0-6 months old then I also sewed together a little crinkle/tag toy! I would upload photos of those but I am currently having some computer difficulties :(

Homemade Baby Food

While I was pregnant with with my son I made the decision that when it came time for him to start solids that I would make his food. With all the reading did I figured hey I can do that too! That time has come. Blake is almost 6 months old so it's time to get the fresh fruits and vegetables and mash away!

I have so far introduced him to a few different foods. Some of his favorites include apples and carrots. Both separate and other. That is exactly what I made this morning. I picked out some nice Red Delicious apples and a small bag of carrots. I recommend buying organic when it comes to apples and carrots as they are both on the EWG's "dirty dozen" list.

This is how I made puree carrots and apples:

Baby's Applesauce
(I've read Macintosh, Gala or Braeburn apples are best)

Any amount of apples (I used 3)

Water

Stove Pot

Wash, peel and core apples, put apples in large pot with just enough water to cover the tops of the apples. Boil until tender. Strain cooked apples while saving the left over water. Put apples into food processor and puree while adding leftover water until desired consistency.

Easy as that!! I then put the puree in ice cube trays, covered with plastic wrap and put them in the freezer. Each cube is equal to about 1 ounce. After they are frozen I popped them into a labeled ziploc. Then when your little one wants a meal just take one out, defrost and your little one is good to eat!

With the carrots I choose to steam them. Next time I make the applesauce I think i will try steaming them too.

My rice cooker has a steamer basket that it came with so I steamed as directed, until they were tender. Strain carrots, put carrots into food processor and puree. I choose not to keep the water instead I used fresh water for thinning. Follow same steps above for storage.
